UFC 189 Predictions

On Saturday Night, the Ultimate Fighting Championship presents UFC 189 from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

It’s the first of 5 events for the promotion in the month of July with The Ultimate Fighter 21 Finale, UFC Fight Night: Mir vs. Duffee, UFC Fight Night: Bisping vs. Leites, and UFC on FOX 16 coming up later this month.

The next 7 days for the promotion will see 4 events take place for the promotion.

This card is part of International Fight Week which is the biggest week of the year for the UFC.

This marks the first event to take place in the Reebok Era as the UFC signed a deal with them to become the uniform supplier earlier this year.

It also is the first event to happen under the new Drug Testing Policy which came into effect last week.

Jose Aldo was supposed to defend the UFC Featherweight Title on this highly anticipated show which is going to do a great number on Pay Per View but had to withdraw after suffering a Rib Injury in training.

Despite Aldo’s absence, this event will draw a huge gate thanks to fans coming over from Ireland.

Onto the card.

The card will feature 11 Bouts including a clash for the Interim UFC Featherweight Title, a rematch from UFC 167 for the UFC Welterweight Title, a Featherweight Ranking Tussle, a Welterweight Battle, and a Bantamweight Slugfest to go along with a great undercard.

Here’s the card along with my predictions for UFC 189 on Saturday Night.

Main Card

Featherweight Bout: Conor McGregor vs. Chad Mendes (For Interim Featherweight Title)

Pick: Conor McGregor via Knockout (Left Uppercut) in the 1st Round.

Welterweight Bout: Robbie Lawler (c) vs. Rory MacDonald

Pick: Robbie Lawler via TKO (Punches) in the 4th Round.

Featherweight Bout: Dennis Bermudez vs. Jeremy Stephens

Pick: Dennis Bermudez via Knockout (Head Kick) in the 1st Round.

Welterweight Bout: Gunnar Nelson vs. Brandon Thatch

Pick: Gunnar Nelson via Submission (Triangle Choke) in the 3rd Round.

Bantamweight Bout: Brad Pickett vs. Thomas Almeida

Pick: Thomas Almeida via TKO (Leg Kicks) in the 2nd Round.

Preliminary Card

Welterweight Bout: Matt Brown vs. Tim Means

Pick: Matt Brown via Unanimous Decision.

Welterweight Bout: Mike Swick vs. Alex Garcia

Pick: Alex Garcia via Submission (Armbar) in the 1st Round.

Welterweight Bout: Cathal Pendred vs. John Howard

Pick: Cathal Pendred via Unanimous Decision.

Bantamweight Bout: Cody Garbrandt vs. Henry Briones

Pick: Cody Garbrandt via Knockout (Right Cross) in the 2nd Round.

Flyweight Bout: Neil Seery vs. Louis Smolka
